Other variations were added over the years to include a turbo version and VR6 engine as well as diesel powered engines. However, it has been said that when fully loaded the Porsche Cayenne can still sometimes lack sufficient power for tasks such as towing and overtaking.
Would you be interested in recovering some of the power that Porsche had to tune out to meet European regulatory standard? Yes, Porsche had to remove some of the power the engine was originally designed to have available just to meet standards set by a number of different countries. Rather than adjust the ECU map for each individual country and so save money in bulk production costs they looked to achieve the lowest common denominator so one engine setting would meet all the potential standards.
It also allows the manufacturer to release a later Porsche Cayenne model with a small tweak of the ECU map to give back the power they initially withheld from buyers. The cost of developing a new more powerful engine could run into millions with all the retooling and testing etc required. The cost of tweaking the ECU mapping to give just little more power spread across thousands of Porsche Cayenne cars is maybe just a few pounds if that.
